Qutab Minar: Hottest Destination for Delhi India Tourism |
|
|
Qutab Minar is the highest stone tower situated at Mehrauli in south Delhi that facilitates India tourism by attracting incessant visitors throughout the year. It is being built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 12th century and later completed by his successor and son-in-law Shamsu'd-Din Iltutmish in 13th century. This tower is 72.5 m high with 2.75 m in diameter at the top and 14.32 m in diameter at its base
Qutab Minar has five storeys, each story marked by an extended balcony. First three floors are made up of red sand stones and the rest two storeys are made up of marble and red sand stones. Its wall is fully encrypted with complex Islamic inscription and verses of Koran and this is the first ever Islamic structure that is built in India.
There are many beliefs about the establishment of this tower. Some says that it is constructed to celebrate the victory of Mohammed Ghori, an invader from Afghanistan over the Rajputs in 1192, at the same time it is assumed that this minar (tower) is made close to the first mosque in India, Quwwat-ul-Islam for its muezzin or priest to climb up at top and offer prayer to Allah.
One can see an iron pillar at the central square which is known to be constructed by Chandragupta II Vikramaditya. This pillar is the only one object of Hindu temples that escapes the destruction of Qutb-ud-din Aibak. It has withstood corrosion for the last 1,600 years and has added curiosity and attention among the archeologists and metallurgists around the globe. People believe that when you put your arms behind your body and encircle the pillar making a wish, your wish gets fulfilled; this speculation has further added popularity to this upright structure.
