Karim restaurant near Jama Masjid is the most famous one for the taste of royal foods. Karim has history of flavors and its history is associated long back with the Mughal Emperors and Empresses who loved to eat dishes prepared with Indian spices. When British snatched the ruling power over India from Mughals, Karim’s ancestors fled from Delhi to Ghaziabad and later in 1911 came back to Delhi and started a Dhaba (an open eatery) which later in 1913 converted to a restaurant.
Karim’s ancestors who were the royal cooks, they never forget to teach the formula of preparing royal dishes to their descendants, hence today’s Karim is run by fourth generation. Dishes available in Karim are so delicious that it has subverted many Indian vegetarians. People often visit this restaurant to eat succulent chicken prepared in tandoor, kofta of peppery ground lamb that encloses boiled egg and several other non-veg delicacies that are made just like the one that Babar, Aurangzeb and many Mughal Kings had years before.
