India Gate |

The India gate, which is elegantly erected at the end of Rajpath in order to commemorate the Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting during First World War at Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan boarder during 1919.
The foundation stone of India gate was laid down by the Duke of Connaught on 10th February 1921 and the whole structure is designed by Edwin Lutyens, who was a famous English architecture of 20th century and was actively involved in designing and building of New Delhi. After ten years, this monument was dedicated to the Indian Nation by then Viceroy, Lord Irwin.
India Gate is 42m high and the names of 90,000 Indian soldiers are inscribed on the walls of the gate. Another cenotaph called Amar Jawan Jyoti was erected later which is characterized with eternal flames and burns 24 hours a day in memory of soldiers who laid down their lives during the Indo-Pak war in 1971.
Area is covered with green lawn and it is the perfect place for relaxation with family members and friends. The place becomes more dazzling when the India Gate and the fountain nearby lit up with colorful lights in the night.
