Red fort or Lal Quila is built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra to Shahjahanabad from Agra in 1638. Designed by Mughal architects Ustad Hamid and Ahmed, construction was started on 1639 and was completed on 1648.
