Central museum located in Ramnivas Garden is one of the oldest museums in Jaipur constructed under the supervision of British Army officer Lt. Swinton Jacob in 1876. This museum is made in architectural resemblance of Victoria Hall in England and executes Indo-Sarcenic architectural style.
Rajasthan is popularly known for rich and colorful traditional and cultural beauties. Central Museum in Jaipur has expensive collection of antique valuables. The then king of Jaipur Maharaja Ram Singh wanted to use this building as a town hall but his successor Madho Singh decided to turn it to an art museum.
Central museum has brilliant collection of artifacts, royal portraits, paintings, sculptures, miniature terracotta figures, pottery from Bundi, Jaipur, Kota and Kishangarh schools of painting. The upper floor of the museum is adorned with various items used by old royal families including their portraits, ceremonial attire, range of utensils, brass and other metal objects and other tribal wares and jewelry. |
