Kerala is known for network of lakes, canals and estuaries of forty-four river whose water decants into Arabian Sea from Western Ghats. Among the lakes in Kerala backwaters, the second largest is the Ashtamudi Lake.
Lake is given the name Ashtamudi or “eight armed” since it has network of eight channels. Located near Kollam, it is a spectacular lake of Kerala backwater. One can spiced up the touring trip by taking a houseboat cruise across the lake in a quite and peaceful environment and see the lifestyle of the people living across the bank of the lake.
Reaching to Ashtamudi Lake is very easy as it located at a close distance of 1 Km from Bus and railway station and 75 Km from the airport in Thiruvananthapuram. Backwater cruise starts at Kollam and ends at Allappuzha and is the longest backwater cruise in Kerala. |
