|
Akbar, the famous Mughal Emperor started constructing this tomb when he was alive and was later completed by this successor son Jehangir after his demise. This magnificent mausoleum made with artistic blend of varied religion and culture is enough to understand the religion diversity that Akbar loved to live with.
Situated at Sikandra which is at a distance of 3 Kms from Agra, Akbar’s mausoleum is a must visit site in a trip to Agra to experience the reverence towards convincing architecture of then Mughal ruler Akbar the Great.
You can enter to the place by imposing arched gate that resembles Buland Darwaza of Agra Fort. Once inside, you will move ahead along with lustrous green extended lawn where you can often see deer grazing as this place has become a habitat for deer, squirrels, monkeys and many wild birds.
Internet resources have stated that the monument is made in pillar and post basis giving a pyramidal shape to the structure. Inner surface of the tomb is beautifully designed with minimal decoration of colorful paintings, images of flower and Islamic calligraphy on its wall. Some designs used in the monument are seen in Taj Mahal which is constructed later by Saha Jehan than Akbar’s mausoleum.
It is the perfect place to find the ambience of peace and tranquility and the complex also in-house red sandstone tomb of Akbar’s Queen Mariyam.
